Our
Orange Pumpkin
2002 Camaro B4C
By Chino Barreto
“Sometimes is not we who finds THE car
but the THE car that finds us“
That was said by a friend of ours a few years back as we took delivery of “The
Orange Pumpkin” - a 2002 Sunset Orange B4C Camaro. The car, one of 7 built that year, came to be
through the efforts of none other than Andy Wolf from Bud Wolf Chevrolet. He thought it would be fun to
have one of these special edition cars as the production of the Camaro was coming to its end. With that
in mind he gathered a few interested parties and ordered 5 Sunset Orange Camaro’s with the B4C SEO code.
Surprisingly enough and despite several challenges along the way, the order finally went through and all 5 cars where
built and delivered to the dealership. It is these challenges that really make this vehicle one for the
history books. Ironically the challenges surrounding the car from being produced were not related to any
restrictions risen from the fact that the B4C is the Camaro Police Package and as such not readily available to the general
public. The challenges were more about the fact that the car was ordered so late in the production year
and close to the plant closure that many of the option codes listed kept getting kicked back at the factory and thus required
a little help from the Central Office for completion (which some will say would make it a “COPO” car).
Kay and I saw the car for the first time at Bud Wolf Chevrolet and it just caught our eye… the
car was new and it had less then 100 miles on it. It was just beautiful. A few months
later the car was sold and ended up in Kentucky for a spell. It then made it’s way back to Bud Wolf
Chevrolet where we saw it and fell in love with it all over again. A few weeks later we ended up taking
delivery of the car after an impromptu test drive at the yearly Spring Fling car show at Bud Wolf Chevrolet. The
car now had less then 3000 miles and it ran like tops.
Besides being one of 7 made and
one of the last Camaro’s to roll off the assembly plant; this Camaro sports several dealer installed options not common
on a B4C. 6 speed manual transmission, leather interior, premium sound system, cruise control, custom wheels
and grille fascia plus a set of GM approved “Special Service” decals that adorn both sides of the vehicle –
making this car not only unique but one of a kind .
This car has been a nice addition
to our “collection” that also includes a 1995 Brickyard 400 Pace Car replica Impala SS. It
currently has 4500 miles on the clock and has been a pleasure to drive and show around town. The only thing
missing now is a matching 5th Gen B4C in the garage… but that is just something we will have to leave to
chance and perhaps a winning lottery ticket for now… J
